Decisions & Direction
Why Do Too Many Opinions Create Confusion?
Every new opinion adds another person’s values and fears to a decision that already feels uncertain.
Seeking another opinion can be useful when it brings new facts or experience. It becomes less useful when you keep asking because no answer removes all uncertainty.
Different people may be trying to protect you from different risks. One values security, another values freedom, and another wants you to avoid the mistake they once made.
The goal is not to find the opinion that sounds most confident. It is to understand the decision well enough to choose with your own values in view.
Ideas you could consider
- You could pause before asking another person and write what you already know.
- It may help to separate useful facts from personal preferences.
- My advice would be to let a small circle inform your choice without allowing the crowd to make it.
